SELECTION - SOME THOUGHTS
The selection committee have been the subject of criticism recently, some justified - some not. As an example this week we had 4 (yes 4!) separate meetings. Here is the out come of some of our head scratching to make things work a little better.
- Problems
late withdrawals, horrendous injury list, poor communication, non- availability, transport issues, removal of text service. To try to address these problems we have come up with the following
- 4 point plan.
- Players availability will be checked by text on the Sunday evening.
- Selection will take place on Tuesday at 7:30 - this will give adequate time
to reply to the text to notify committee of non availability. - Teams will be posted on this site and on the club notice board by 10am
Wednesday at the latest. The Barnsley Chronicle will also be notified. - Most importantly of all please note that players must take their share of
responsibility for helping us all get it right. Its no good waiting to be asked -
check the media and help us all get get it right!
Bairstow, Ballance, Hannon-Dalby, Lee and Rafiq rewarded
Anthony McGrath took time out ahead of the Durham LV County Championship match to reward five of Yorkshire's promising youngsters with their 2nd XI caps.
Jonathan Bairstow, Gary Ballance, Barnsley CC's Oliver Hannon-Dalby and James Lee received their caps from their county captain Friday morning. The only absentee was Barnsleys Azeem Rafiq who is currently away with England Under-19s.
Many congratulations and good luck for the future to all of them.
Yorkshire Seconds meanwhile, played two games at Shaw Lane this season. First they palyed Glamorgan seconds in the Secend XI Trophy and won by 64 runs (scorecard), then played the same County in the three day Second XI Championship, Unfortunately days one and three were washed out due to rain, with Yorkshire batting on day 2 of the drawn game (scorecard)

Our Vice-chairman is, as he may have mentioned a time or two, a former football league referee. Well
in some more northerly parts of the world he is looked on with some derision after disallowing two
perfectly good goals within the space of 3 minutes extra time at St James Park for Newcastle United.
As you can imagine, even though the incident took place in 1981, he is still not flavour of the month.
In an attempt to win back his fans in the north east, Trelf has now hit on a good plan to win back their
affection. This involves impersonating the Angel of the North, whilst wearing a Newcastle shirt.
